Purpose :

Carrying out activities involving social support to individual patients/survivors and linking them with other relevant support services and communities at large. Within the framework of the project, participate in the development of humanitarian activities by supporting the project team in the following areas: analysis of the context and the humanitarian situation, implementation of testimonial and advocacy strategies and activities, while respecting the policies and values of MSF, and in order to improve the humanitarian situation and human rights for the population concerned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Conducting social assessments, identifying the social support needs of patients/survivors, including legal, protection, shelter/housing, financial/vocational, food security, and access to medical and psychosocial support services beyond the project intervention scope.

·         Supporting the provision of comprehensive care to patients and their families, by actively coordinating their work with the other members of the MSF multidisciplinary team (eg. medical, MHPSS) and linking with multi-sectoral services such as protection, safety, security, legal, justice, education, and livelihood.

·         Providing direct social support based on social assessments and facilitating referrals to evaluated external re-sources. Provide systematic follow up care regarding attendance of clinical appointments, and following up on referrals made to relevant multi-sectoral services aimed at improving the quality of life of patients/survivors.

·         Participating in the creation and maintenance of any material needed for the activities of social workers, including facilities and equipment in order to ensure continuity.

·         Mapping and regular updating of formal and informal support services (incl. existing community resources). Assess quality of existing support services, with identification of gaps and advocacy for an improved culturally appropriate social response.

·         Maintaining records, statistics, files, and reports on all social work activities and follow up care either provided by MSF or other support services. Identifying gaps in the available services and with the team prioritizing and developing plans following the objectives of MSF.

Specific ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Collect data and monitor the local context, particularly in regards to humanitarian situation of the target population in the project location, assistance, health and access to care, in order to be able to provide reliable information to support advocacy efforts. Includes collecting testimonies.
  • Document humanitarian needs of the target population and gaps in access to protection. Liaise with protection actors to expose shortcomings of the available assistance and advocate ensuring timely and adequate pris-en-charge for population in the project location.
  • Assist in raising humanitarian issues in the mission and with external agencies (NGOs, UN, and other actors) to seek assistance and protection for the affected population, and facilitate protection referrals.
  • Update and file field contacts and correspondence related to protection/humanitarian affairs in order to ensure information sources accuracy and its availability on regular basis.
  • Ensure good working relationships with local authorities, other NGOs, local communities, etc. in order to facilitate the contact of the MSF teams with the population and to improve the coordination of their activities with third parties.
  • Promote and assist in the implementation of advocacy at local level.

Minimum Requirements and Competencies

3a. Fixed Requirements
Education Diploma in law, humanitarian affairs, political science, social sciences or other similar university degree
Experience A minimum of two years of experience in research, analysis and advocacy.

Experience within MSF or other NGOs

Languages Arabic, English
Knowledge Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
