Position: Outreach Worker
Report to: Help desk manager
Status: Collaborator/Fulltime
Duty station: Sabha office
Key responsibilities:
The outreach worker is responsible to motivate and mobilize the communities, for assisting communities to learn to self-manage community investments, contributions and projects through direct support as well as capacity building activities. Working as part of a gender-balanced team, the position requires the ability to work constructively with a wide variety of people in a rural and urban setting, with refugee and resident communities alike.
Responsibilities/duties:
- Develop and maintain strong community relationships;
- Assess and report on community needs with the rest of the team to achieve programs objectives;
- Carry out community mobilization and assist the team in capacity building activities with community members;
- Incorporate participatory principles into community-level emergency response activities;
- Ensure non-partisan, culturally and socially to advise the team in appropriate implementation of project.
- Contribute to feasibility studies, surveys and need assessments.
- Establish new contacts with communities as well as revive old ones.
- Conduct community committee’s trainings, field visits, training sessions, campaigns, meetings with local leaders and women’s groups;
- Assist with general program operations and field-based activity;
- Assist with development and implementation of staff and community training curriculum and materials, if needed.
- Carry out community-based mobilization and other related activities, adhering to project work plan and ensuring consistent implementation across the project area;
- Seek to create constructive working environment for community participants and field team, and encourage, facilitate, and mediate nonviolent conflict resolution and problem solving;
- Identify areas where communities need support, and facilitate access to resources;
- S/he will perform any other tasks requested by the Supervisor in the framework of the activities foreseen by INTERSOS program in Libya.
Other responsibilities:
- Uphold the INTERSOS Code of Conduct and policies;
- Ensure the respect of the core humanitarian principles: neutrality, impartiality, independence and humanity and the respect of the “do no harm” principle of humanitarian action.
- Strictly follow the internal procedures and guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- University degree in Science, Community Development, Psychology or Social Work degree and/or equivalent practical field experience, preferably with a humanitarian organization;
- Ideally at least 2 years of experience in protection related sectors, including at least 1 year of experience in emergency projects;
- Training in community mobilization and rehabilitation is an asset;
- Excellent communication skills with variety of people, and express oneself in a clear and concise way;
- Effectively coordinate with district, provincial and national authorities;
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills;
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage efficiently multiple priorities, deadlines and tasks with attention to details;
- Excellent Arabic spoken and written language skills. Ability to communicate and write in English is mandatory;
- Good command of MS Office package would be an asset;
- Excellent team working skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment and under pressure is Necessary;
- Ability to work under high pressure;
- Capable to attend the work in the center and to travel around in case of need.
